In 1970, the state legislature mandated that the University of Illinois College of Medicine expand medical education opportunities by creating additional sites in Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana. As part of the nation’s largest public medical school, the College of Medicine at Peoria offers a unique balance of classroom education and clinical experience. Since their founding in 1970, Their mission has been to improve healthcare in our community by serving as a leader in education, research and patient care.

University of Illinois College of Medicine’s programs embody a comprehensive approach to education by addressing the needs
of the individual through medical school and residency training, as well as continuing medical education opportunities for practitioners. Through their intensive clinical clerkships, their students are trained to see themselves as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team that is responsible for patient care management.

Because of their committed faculty and strong research programs, they are recognized as leaders in a variety of fields, including pediatrics, rural medicine, and cancer biology research. The success of their educational programs is a reflection of the collaborative relationships they maintain with their affiliated hospitals and organizations, including OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and Methodist Medical Center of Illinois.
